A photo of Erin Wiegand: a middle-aged white woman with short grey hair looks into the camera, smiling. She is wearing a black cardigan, and sunlight is coming through the trees behind her.

Erin Wiegand

I’m a writer, independent scholar, and film programmer with particular interests in genre, film history, exploitation film, horror, and documentary.

I received my MA in Cinema Studies from San Francisco State University, where I also taught as an adjunct lecturer for several years. I moved to the UK in 2017, and in 2022, I received my PhD in Film Studies from Northumbria University. I continue to be engaged with film research as an independent scholar, and I’m currently completing my first book, a genre history of mondo movies. I am a collective member of the Star and Shadow Cinema and a cofounder of Cinemania Presents, which produces fun, immersive film events, including small repertory festivals and movie marathons.

In an adjacent sector of my life, I’m a nonfiction and academic book editor. From 2007 until 2025, I primarily worked within the publishing industry: I was an acquisitions editor at North Atlantic Books and a commissioning editor at Palgrave Macmillan, and I’ve additionally been a production editor for several trade and academic publishers. In 2025, I founded my own editing and publishing services business, Resonant Edits, which serves traditional publishers as well as academics and independent authors.

Born and raised in California, I now live in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK.
